This trip was completely spontaneous and planned at the very last minute. I love the warm weather and any trip that takes me there is one for the books, or in this case blog ;)…
Part of our trip was spent in Miami, Florida and then on a cruise to the Bahamas! I had never been on a cruise before and the only thing I was worried about was feeling the boat rock back and forth. To my surprise I could barely even feel the ship moving, only when we were docking could I feel it moving, and then at that point I was so excited to get off and start exploring it didn’t even phase me.
First stop Key West, Florida. The whole island was so vibrant and bright with new colors everywhere you turned. We ventured from the port all the way to the Southernmost point of the United States stopping at all of typical tourist spots. Ernest Hemingway’s house was so quaint with 6 toed cats strolling around. Yes, six toed cats! Upon arriving at the Southernmost point we obviously stopped to take a picture, but we were not about to wait in that huge line so we just snapped one right in front of the sign. By then it was lunch time and we had finished all our “must sees” so we looked up where the nearest beach was and that’s where we headed too – to catch some rays. Now I understand why so many people vacation in Key West during the cold Michigan months, I for sure will have to visit again!
Next Stop- Coco Cay, Bahamas. This stop was pure relaxation. After wandering around the island we found some beach chairs with a perfect view of the island as well as the ocean. We went on an adventure and took a dive snorkeling out off of the shore. So many fish were swimming all around us! Even with all the tourists swimming near the shore line. I was so surprised by the wide variety of fish we saw. At one point I came up to adjust my snorkel gear and then dove my head back under and no joke I saw a fish the size of a large toddler 10 feet away from me. Yeah I’ll admit I screamed…..
Last stop Nassau, Bahamas. While on the island of Nassau, Bahamas we took a taxi to another smaller island to explore the Versailles Gardens. Honestly these gardens were one of the most beautiful sights of Nassau. I wish we would have stayed there longer and not rushed on to see other sights. Climbing up the Queen’s Staircase I felt like I was walking through an Indiana Jones movie because off all the greenery and mystery climbing up the staircase. Upon arriving at the National Art Gallery we found ourselves as the only ones in the gallery. The trip was an overall success and I cannot wait to visit again!
